Some of my Pet-Peeves which spas pull on clients:
Enzymes..
applied to the skin serve several purposes. They digest protein, and have anti-inflammatory properties. Enzymes are a great professional therapy to deeply exfoliate the skin by chemically breaking-down the dead cells (protein) on the surface without harsh exfoliating treatments and abrasives. A clean, exfoliated surface is smooth, brighter, more hydrated, absorbs actives better, and it glows! An enzyme treatment is sometimes referred to as an enzyme peel - just another term for 'up-charge".
There are several types of enzymes used in skin care, and your professional will choose the type of enzyme which is best suited to your skin type and condition(s). Don't be fooled into thinking you need to pay to have an upgraded "enzyme peel" service, or pay extra for an up-charge for the addition of an enzyme to your facial. (Another way spas 'pad' their bills.) Don't be scammed. Every exfoliating facial service Skinplicity provides, includes a professional-strength enzyme treatment at no additional cost to you.
Peels.
Another service which spas link usually charge exorbitant fees for peels have a necessary place in some therapeutic treatments. Sometimes, more than one peel is required to get the skin to a clinical level before results will be experienced. But, if a peel is required, it can be added on to some facials at the same appointment, without a huge financial hit. If you have a customized facial and your professional determines a peel will benefit your skin at that same appointment, it is usually can be added on for $50 or less. Return visits (a series of 2 or more) need not cost a fortune, providing the package is pre-paid and you schedule your treatments within the required time intervals.
Inferior 'zapping'.
Skin Classic High-Frequency "Zaps" (for unwanted skin imperfections such as broken capillaries, blood spots, dark spots, over-grown oil glands, tags, etc.) is State-of-the-
Art. Don't settle for inferior, unproven treatments. If touched-up at your routine facial appointments, it saves you money. Catch the issues while they are small. Don't be overcharged for inferior device treatments which many spas easily charge $25-$50 for ONE spot.
Oxygen & Oxygenating Treatments.
It is NOT an oxygen treatment, unless the airbrush handpiece is connected to a tank of oxygen gas, or an oxygen concentrator/generator (a large, expensive device which concentrates the oxygen from ambient air to supply an oxygen-enriched gas stream). Otherwise, you are only receiving a pressurized, cooling, skincare product application via room air, being pushed by an air compressor, the size of a small shoe box.
Another pet peeve.
Yummy smelling, silicone-laden, do-nothing expensive products
They have flashy retail names and appeal to your senses: nose (artificial scents) and finger-tips (silicones) with an outrageous price tag and endorsed by Dr. X - but do nothing active & therapeutic to contribute to true, effective, anti-aging, skin-corrections. Most likely you're paying for mass-marketed branded names with the shiny label, and lots of great marketing - but very little actives, research & development. Most well known brands including high-end department store lines, are made in multi-thousand gallon vats and are highly preserved. When you purchase professional skincare products, know that they are generally more potent and active - and can only be dispensed by a licensed therapist.
Fluff
Oh, and if you're looking for a Caribbean Coconut/Mango, Lemon-Meringue Delight, or Dark Chocolate/Strawberries & Creme 'sensory' facial - you won't find them at Skinplicity. No squished-up fruits and berries from Europe, either (highly reactive and allergenic). Skinplicity only uses safe, proven, highly-active professional products. Clean, potent ingredient decks/no harmful chemicals. They might not even smell very yummy, or smell at all; but you are promised that our products are effective, vetted, highly therapeutic, and are the best investment for the health of your skin!
Skinplicity therapeutic facials are customized especially for your skin type, condition(s), and ethnicity. You are paying for my expertise, higher levels of education and training, years of experience; and the finest-quality, results-oriented professional services and active professional products.
My clients do not tell me what services they want-we discuss conditions together... and, I don't have services that read like a pick & choose restaurant menu. Skinplicity has wonderful optional add-ons (more massage, LED therapy, foot peels, aromatherapy, Lash & Brow perms and tinting, waxing...) But, when it comes to anti-aging/rosacea/acne/pigmentation/sensitive/oncology corrective skincare services: together, we investigate all the causative factors and concerns, and you are provided with the professional services and products necessary to achieve healthier skin.
We don't tell our accountant how to do taxes, or an ophthalmologist what prescription we need for vision correction...the same applies to professional skincare.
