When NOT to have a Facial

Facials are Wonderful! Facials make your skin glow by removing dead/dull built-up skin, even-out tone, treat hyperpigmentation, broken capillaries, help clear-up acne, and more. Routine facials along with high-frequency, peels, serums, and good-for-you skincare products help give you healthy, clearer skin. If you haven't had a facial in a long time, or have never had one, it is important to have a thorough consultation and exam prior to receiving any services. Be upfront and honest with your esthetician, let her know your current health history including your medications, homecare routine, and any allergies you have. Share your concerns and expectations....

What are EXTRACTIONS?

That blackhead, whitehead, clogged pore, cyst may rear its ugly head on the surface of the skin, BUT just because you see it on the surface, does NOT mean the pore comes straight up and out. Pores can exit on the surface at an angle or even perpendicular to the skin's surface. When you press and squeeze clogged pores, you may actually be PUSHING the pus, oil, and infection deeper, and most likely cause the pore walls to blow-out causing a bigger, wider, deeper problem. This may cause scaring and pock marks. Scrubbing and harsh exfoliation does not remove blackheads...

Derma (Needle) Rollers... Briefly

This is a Derma Roller. Yes. It has needles. Yes. I can cause microscopic bleeds in the tissue Yes. It pokes holes in your skin. As those needles roll across your skin, they create small triangular tears in your skin. Would I use it on my face? NEVER! I WOULD BE VERY WORRIED ABOUT WHOSE SKIN IT WAS USED ON BEFORE ME, AND WONDER HOW IT WAS STERILIZED. Instead of causing direct injury and inflammation to your skin, learn how to build it up & strengthen it. Your esthetician can help.

The Difference Between One Peel and a Series of Peels

Chemical peels are acids. Scary sounding, but when administered by a highly trained professional, they can be wonderful for your skin. There are AHA (alpha-hydroxy) and BHA (beta-hydroxy) peels. They are derived from many different sources (fruit, dairy, nuts, bark, etc.), and come in differing percentages (strengths) and pH levels. Some are oil-loving, others are water loving. Some work mainly on the surface and others penetrate deeper into the structure of the pore. Many times a professional will mix or layer different types of peels to achieve different results. Certain peels may be preferred over others, and there are specifics...

Dry Summer 'Alligator' Skin

Lately, I have been seeing many clients experiencing rough, scaly - textured dry skin on their arms and legs. Lot's of people have it year-round, but all the sun exposure, chlorinated pools, and dehydration from the heat and air-conditioning are causing  extreme cases of it this summer. Honestly, most of you are not drinking enough water. Soda, tea, coffee, smoothies, and juice don't count. Sorry. Start your day with a tall glass of water with a squeeze of lemon or lime in it. If you sense thirst, you are beyond the point of mild dehydration. Also, as we age, we...

Cherry Angiomas/Hemangiomas

Cherry angiomas are made up of clusters of capillaries at the surface of the skin, forming a small round dome ("papule"), which may be flat topped. They range in colour from bright red to purple. When they first develop, they may be only a tenth of a millimeter in diameter and almost flat, appearing as small red dots. However, they then usually grow to about one or two millimeters across, and sometimes to a centimeter or more in diameter. As they...

Skin Tags, Fibromas, and Treatment

Picture of skin tags on the skin A Skin Tag is a tiny, benign, outpouching of skin that is typically connected to the underlying skin by a thin stalk. Skin tags look like tiny bits of "hanging" skin. They may been located on the face, and  occur in sites where clothing rubs against the skin or where there is skin-to-skin friction, such as the underarms, neck, upper chest, and groin. Skin tags...
