A Word about (Glycolic and other) Acids/Peels and pH

Many, many over the counter skincare products have glycolic acid(s) or other acids in them. What separates the effective from the ineffective - the professional from the OTC, are pH. Rather than get all technical on you, understand that if your product has say, a percentage of 15% glycolic acid in it, chances are it is not nearly as effective as my in-spa PROFESSIONAL peel of 10%. Why? Because of the pH. The pH (acidity/alkalinity (base)/neutrality of a product) determines its effectiveness. Most OTC products are buffered to 3.5 pH. Professional/licensed-only products may have an pH of 2.0. ...

Skinplicity's Vitamin C Serum with Glutathione & Ferulic Acid

My Vitamin C serum is a very potent 25%; custom-made for me without all the unnecessary dangerous chemicals and preservatives. I order it in small batches, where it is compounded AFTER I place the order. It has Glutathione: Vitamin C removes free radicals (harmful waste produced in the body ), by neutralizing them and eliminating them out of the body. However, vitamin C cannot complete its function without enough glutathione. Imagine vitamin C going into the cell, surrounding the waste, eliminating it, and then...

Sulfites and Sulfates.

Sodium Lauryl/laureth Sulfite/sulfates: Both Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) and its close relative Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) are commonly used in many soaps, shampoos, detergents, toothpastes and other products that we expect to "foam up". Both chemicals are very effective foaming agents, chemically known as surfactants. Unfortunately, both sodium laureth sulfate and its cousin are also very dangerous, highly irritating chemicals. Far from giving "healthy shining hair" and "beautiful skin", soaps and shampoos containing sodium laureth sulfate can lead to direct damage to the hair follicle, skin damage, permanent eye damage in children and even liver toxicity. Although sodium laureth sulfate...

Parabens (Toxic Preservatives in your Skincare Products) - Don't Use Them!

You constantly hear me harp on the dangers of Parabens. I DON'T CARE IF THEY ARE NATURALLY SOURCED FROM BLUEBERRIES OR HONEYSUCKLE - THEY ARE STILL PARABENS, WITH THE SAME MOLECULAR STRUCTURE! Here are recent articles giving you the basic reasons why: By Dr. Mercola
New research has detected the presence of paraben esters in 99 percent of breast cancer tissues sampled.1 The study examined 40 women who were being treated for primary breast cancer. In 60 percent of cases, five of the different esters were present. Parabens are chemicals with estrogen-like properties, and estrogen is one of...

Yes, I am Outspoken. Just a word on Threading

Threading is NASTY, GROSS, AND A VERY LITIGIOUS, RISKY SERVICE WHEN THE MOUTH IS USED! I have seen many clients come in with scabby micro-'slashes' on their skin from threading/and visible at times without the MagLamp! EVERY TIME that thread is held taut and the thread is pulled (while cutting the skin), microscopic aerosolized drops of saliva and BLOOD (white and red cells!) go flying into the air... to land on surfaces, the skin, and inhaled. I was in the dental field for almost 20 years, (as well as an OSHA compliance manager) - a field that is SO REGULATED...

THE FLIP SIDE

Deluxe Back/Shoulder Treatment

It is wintertime, and I am seeing a lot of other body areas that are neglected and need attention besides the face.

Don't forget about your back and shoulders.  How often do you exfoliate your back?  (I don't mean scrubbing it with a brush.)

Popular before weddings and formal engagements - or- baring your back at the gym -or- on a cruise; a Deluxe Back Facial focuses on making your back smoother and clearing up blemishes. Includes a...

Guys, It's Time to Clean-up Those Uni-brows, Nasal Hair & Ear Shrubbery!

Sorry guys... Uni-brows, protruding nasal and ear shrubbery are not attractive. And, it makes you look old and unkempt! In a few simple steps your shaggy brows can be cleaned-up, but not looking 'done'. Open space between the brows gives a less sinister, more groomed look. Nasal hair is necessary to some extent as it filters out pathogens, but we don't have to see it on the outside. Waxing is cleaner, more effective, and longer lasting than trimming. The same goes for ear shrubbery. Who wants to kiss a hairy ear or ear lobe... 'Just sayin'! If the brows are...

Do you really want the Squishy Coconut, Tutti-Fruity, Chocolate Mousse, Cherries 'n' Creme, 24K Gold, Silver Powder, Mocha-Latte, Asian Bamboo, Flavor of the Month Treatments and Products?

Today's spa services read like a bloated, high-priced exotic restaurant menu. Vendors and spas constantly come up with new and creative ways to market skincare products to keep the client enticed. But, are you going for the EXPERIENCE or are you going for PROVEN, SAFE skincare therapies? Granted, there are substances extracted from the aforementioned products that have positive beneficial effects. Silver is anti-microbial, certain fruits contain enzymes, bamboo is fibrous and can be used to exfoliate the skin, caffeine in coffee has a temporary diuretic effect. But, are the results what you expected, or do you leave craving a...

Topical Vitamin C

If I had to choose just one product for all my clients/patients to use it would be Topical Vitamin C.                                                                                       Whether you are a teen or a senior, acneic or dry, rosacea/sensitive or normal, sunburnt/sundamaged and pigmented; you will benefit from daily topical vitamin C on your skin. Guys, that means you, too! There are so many benefits, and really no known side-effects except for temporary minor irritation on very sensitive persons; everyone should use it. What does it do?
  • It is key to collagen production - which is a protein that gives the under structure of your skin...

What is a Deep Cleansing Facial?

Prior to my Esthetics education and Naturopathy studies, I was in the medical and dental fields for almost 20 years. I like to equate a Deep Cleansing Facial to the following: Every four to six months most of us go to the dentist for a hygiene appointment (cleaning, prophy, etc.). That is a professional cleaning. Something you cannot and should not do at home. You receive a thorough examination & diagnosis, and certain procedures are employed to cleanse the surface of the tooth enamel and remove hardened calculus off the surface, and beneath the gum line. When done properly, the...
